A reader comments on my previous post, How to Rid Yourself of Demons
Just a quick note on ‘how to rid yourself of a demon’ our inner desires, fears, lusts are all catalogued in the Dictionnaire infernal by Mr DePlancy, you should see these 69 demons as maps of the mind, their true intention NOT as self empowered entities but as a guide to illustrating and identifying the problems at hand, research already shows the human mind operates more effectively by pictorial memory rather than textual. Life force which is the very energy we are able to grow in is a very powerful property, sometimes ‘demons’ such as these 69 are embellished by harvesting life force the wrong way, such as the ego etc. But in the case of the girl who assumes possession by demons, this very act of ‘pretense’ even if out just to fool her friends will prove catastrophic as she will soon identify all the negatives in her life and will believe herself she is truly possessed, the strongest and most dangerous aspect of demonology is belief.
I’ve commented in a number of posts about the importance of ‘belief’ in magick – see A Modern Definition of Magick and What’s the Purpose of Doing Magickal Rituals? – but let me address the Law of Attraction here.
The basis for the Law of Attraction is that we attract to us those things that we think about and devote mental energy to. When we think of positive things and hold positive intentions, we attract more of that – meaning we condition our mind to look for those positive things that fulfill our intentions in the universe.
The same holds true for negativity. How many people do you know that always are complaining about something? Now why do you think that nothing good ever happens to them?
Negativity Attracts Negativity
Think of this framework like a lens. If you view the world through a negative lens, negative aspects will be most prominent. Perhaps your significant other isn’t the person you wish him/her to be. Maybe you are in debt or you hate your job. Maybe you’re depressed or can’t believe you did something so stupid.
When we get into those modes, even good things that happen aren’t enough to keep us happy. We soon sink back to our baseline levels and wallow in our own miseries. How many times have you heard people say that since good was happening to them, something bad was bound to happen? And usually it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.
This is the power of belief. When we believe bad things will happen to us, they usually do. We say we want to attract only good things, but everywhere around us we see negativity – our co-workers complain about having too much to do, the media tells us yet another murder took place, we receive countless bills in the mail reminding us about how much debt we have, we read magazines to help us lose weight, have mind-blowing sex, or look better, and we watch advertisements for all the stuff we don’t have but should. Our society fuels our complexes, telling us that we lack and we’ll never be happy until… [ insert current desire here ].
This certainly isn’t a new concept. Throughout history, people have wanted to get out of debt, be respected in their communities, find love, and know what the future will hold. Take a look at the 72 demons of the Goetia – they address all of these aspects.
As I said in the “rid yourself of demons” post, it’s no wonder so many people think they are possessed of demons. Everywhere you look, there’s a gap between who you are and what society tells you that you should be.
The key to breaking this is to take off your negative filter and replace it with a positive one. Be grateful for what you have and worry about living life in the present moment (the now) rather than what will happen in the future.
Look inside yourself and rid yourself of those beliefs that have been sabotaging you – I bet most of them come from past experiences. Maybe your parents didn’t think you could succeed in a particular career, so you choose another to make them happy. Maybe you had a nasty breakup and now don’t want to be close with anyone. Whatever the case, the source for virtually all your inner demons will be fear. And the best way to conquer fear is to confront it and realize that it’s not so bad.
