This book takes emphasizes pop culture rather than providing an in depth history of hell. In it, you'll find entries ranging from mythology to art to theater. Unfortunately, if you're looking for detailed descriptions, you're going to find very few here. The book is more of an entertaining read and the topics are very generalized - some not completely historically accurate. There are also odd entries such as a reference to David Letterman's show. To be fair, there are a couple of interesting and obscure references to Shobari Waka and Olodumare, so there is some take away value from the book.
Overall, if you're looking for some light reading on hell in pop culture (tv, music, comic books) and the arts/poetry (ie writings by CS Lewis or the Devil and Daniel Webster) with some historical references and obscure mythos interspersed, you'll probably really enjoy this book. It's an easy read, and fairly quick. However, if you're looking for a reference guide, this book isn't for you.
